Hey Nerds! Since we were unable to share our pod for today we didn't want to forget our indy spotlight for the week and highly encourage you to check this one out!
For the month of November we wanted to focus on independent brands that have a strong sense of giving back, so every week this month we will recommend a new brand for you all to check out. This week we're shining some light on Westward/Leaning out of San Francisco, California.
Started in 2012 by two Standford MBA graduates, Westward Leaning has grown to be a recognizable brand that's garnered much media and celebrity appeal and still manages to hold on to it's roots of staying independently owned. With all of their styles designed to be unisex in concept and a focus on exceptional craftsmanship and materials, these guys manage to do it all. From ski goggles to sunglasses, optical and customized options they've managed to corner some of the more niche options of the optical industry in ways many others have not.
In addition to their craftsmanship, we found their charitable initiatives to be just as appealing as their eyewear. 15% of the net proceeds from their optical collections go to the Northern California chapter of Vision to Learn and provides free exams and glasses to children in low income areas. In addition to their optical contributions they also share 15% from their ski goggle collection and a portion of their core collection models with the National Park Foundation to ensure more of the great outdoors for generations to come.
My personal favorite initiative they have is the Westward Leaning x Olivia Palermo initiative. Olivia Palermo, a Dress for Success advocate, has partnered with Westward Leaning for a beautifully done sunglass collection that offers 10% of it's net to the not-for-profit organization. Dress for Success is a "global not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life." This is a foundation that we both enthusiastically support and hope you will too, so be sure to check out the eyewear or go directly to the Dress for Success website to see how else you can help support the women of the world in becoming our best selves.
